CC News: StarCraft II Gameplay Video |
 |

| Posted by: Drek on Dec 20, 2008 |
I know several in the Crazy Canucks have expressed an interest in StarCraft II, and there is no doubt it is one of the most highly anticipated releases in the history of computer gaming. Just thought I'd provide a link to a video play by play of a live game. I haven't watched the entire video, I hear the play by play is a little overdone, think Foster Hewitt calling StarCraft, but still, it definitely looks interesting.

CC News: Darkfall Online Promo Video |
 |
| |
| Posted by: Drek on Nov 28, 2008 |
I've been on a bit of a Darkfall Online kick lately, so I might as well continue the trend. This video pretty much says it all about what Darkfall Online is supposed to be all about. The question is, will it live up to the hype? Hopefully I'll be able to let you know soon.
One thing it claims is that you can "attack anyone anywhere". While this is technically true, it probably won't work out practically that way, in fact, for the game's own good, it had better not work out practically that way. As I said in my earlier preview of the game, there will be cities with guards that will protect the innocent, and there will be serious consequences for being a murdering thug. The life of a psychopathic killer will not be an easy one, which will be a good thing...

CC News: Darkfall Online: First Impressions |
 |
| |
| Posted by: Drek on Nov 19, 2008 |
Just thought I'd post some more Darkfall Online beta news. The developers have managed to keep a tight lid on information leaks and up to now no information has leaked from the beta. They blew the lid off that by releasing several pages of comments from participants in the beta. You can read them here.
I realize Aventurine is controlling the information here, but throughout their development process I have been impressed by the lengths they have gone to be balanced with both positive and negative. They say they didn't doctor the game play video they released, to the extent that in some ways it simply didn't do the game justice, if the beta tester's comments are to be believed.
The proof will be in the pudding as they say, but there is the smallest chance that this is one release that will actually live up to it's hype. There is more to come I expect. Just a word of warning again, if you are easily offended, the Darkfall forums can be more than a little on the rough side, so make sure you are wearing your thick skin if you intend to spend any time there.

CC News: Darkfall Online Goes Beta |
 |
| |

After over seven years of development, Darkfall Online has gone into beta. Darkfall Online promises to be the "next generation" of fantasy mmo's ("massively multiplayer online" games). While it could be argued that that is true, in many ways Darkfall Online hearkens back to the days when mmo's were a new genre, and the games had more of a Wild West feel to them, where anything goes.
Anyone who played Ultima Online in the early days, before they changed the rules quite dramatically, will probably remember it as one of the most intense gaming experiences they had ever had. Not only was the entire genre brand new, but it seemed that almost anything could, and most likely would happen. There was a sense of danger that few of the mmo's that have been created since then have been able to capture.

CC News: New Version of Day of Defeat: Source Released! |
 |
| |
| Posted by: Drek on Jul 03, 2008 |
A new version of Day of Defeat: Source has been released. Day of Defeat: Source is now officially out of beta, and is now using the Orange Box engine (Team Fortress 2). This is going to require a major server update and that all the adminning software, etc. be reinstalled. I will try to have it up and running by tomorrow night, but I make no promises.
In the meantime, I suggest you fire up Steam and update DODS before game time on Friday night, as you will have to essentially be downloading the entire game over again. This update is available to anyone who has purchased Day of Defeat: Source in any way.
