You may or may not be aware, but since we introduced TF2 a couple of years ago we have maybe had one decent game night running it, and maintaining the server has mostly been a waste of time. The main reason has been that we simply haven't been able to bring together enough of us to make the game fun. With that in mind we decided we would try out the TF2 bots which Valve has been developing, and that is what we did last night.
Well, all in all, there were only three of us, but the night was mad fun. It turns out that only three maps have the necessary nav files to make the bots functional, and seeing as we simply weren't playing the game otherwise, those are the three maps we are going to run until support for more maps is added.
For those of you who haven't taken the plunge and bought the game yet, there is a reason why we haven't given up on the game for two years, even though we've never played it. The game really is that good. It has been the king of online fps games since it was released, and for good reason. As much fun as the original Team Fortress Classic is, Team Fortress 2 is that much better again, and last night we only scratched the surface.
Valve has actually introduced some MMO elements into the game, with the ability to gain skills through "achievements" and the ability to craft items. TF2 really has the potential to be the most addictive and engaging of all the games that we Crazy Canucks run. If only some of us would give it a chance... Yes there is life beyond Day of Defeat Bomber...
